In a landmark move for cancer care in South Gujarat, and especially in the Rander–Adajan area of Surat, Shalby Multispecialty Hospital inaugurated its state-of-the-art Shalby Cancer Research Institute (SCRI) on the 8th March 2026. The significance of this day lies in the fact that International Women’s Day is also celebrated on this date. The amalgamation of the two events led to a powerful bike rally to spread awareness about women’s health and a free HPV vaccination program for young girls.
The opening of SCRI in Surat sets a benchmark for precision cancer care, as a multidisciplinary team of dedicated medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists will provide comprehensive cancer care based on established NCCN (American) and ESMO (European) guidelines to each and every patient. No other hospital in the entire South Gujarat has a disease-specific management approach other thanSCRI, Surat.

With a combined experience of almost 40 years in cancer management, advanced infrastructure, the latest radiotherapy machine, operation theaters laden with the latest gadgets, and trained nursing staff, SCRI is expected to grow exponentially in both clinical and cutting-edge research departments.
In a significant contribution to public health and as part of a community-focused initiative, a campaign to provide free HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccinations to 1,000 girls aged 9 to 14 years was announced across all Shalby Hospital centers.
Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, but also one of the deadliest in India. One woman dies of cervical cancer every 8 minutes. As part of the preventive oncology program and to achieve WHO’s global elimination strategy—90% vaccination, 70% screening, and 90% treatment coverage by 2030—SCRI took a step forward to make cervical cancer a thing of the past for the Indian population.
A press conference to highlight the significance of the HPV vaccination drive, latest advancements in cancer management, and the importance of tumor board discussions in cancer care and cancer screening was also held at the end of the event.
